Thailand awaits 40 million tourists by 2024

According to Thailand’s finance minister, it won’t be until 2024 before the country’s tourism rebounds.

Last Wednesday, Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that he expects 40 million international tourists to arrive in Thailand in 2024, Thansettakij reported.

The finance minister said he expects the economy to take 2 years to recover. However, tourism will take 4 years to reach its pre-pandemic levels of glory.

Thailand comes with numerous proposals to enable tourists to visit the country. One of which is an outline plan that allows tourists to visit Phuket starting July 1 without the need to quarantine.

The plan would see 70% of Phuket’s population, some 930,000 people, received the COVID-19 vaccination. Any foreign tourists visiting the country would also need to have received the vaccination and come from a so-called ‘low risk’ country.

If the proposal for Phuket proves successful, it would be rolled out to other popular tourist destinations in Thailand by October 1.

On the other hand, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakulalso announced that Thailand is in discussions with several countries about opening travel bubbles, although he stopped short of naming the countries involved.
