Thailand Elite Visa Requirements: Eligibility, Documents and Visa Affixation

Four conditions apply: a nationality other than North Korean; a clean immigration and criminal record; a passport holding no less than one year of validity and three blank visa pages; and payment of the one-time membership fee, from THB 650,000 to THB 5,000,000 according to the tier selected. The documents to be submitted are a copy of the passport identification page, a colour identification photograph, the signed application form, and evidence of relationship in the case of family applicants. The one-time membership fee constitutes the sole financial requirement, and it falls due only after approval by the Immigration Bureau. The only financial document that may be requested is evidence of the source of the funds applied to payment of the fee, and this applies to naturalised applicants alone.

The 20-year membership is the Reserve tier, at THB 5,000,000 as a one-time fee. The Reserve tier is available by invitation only. Family members may be added at THB 2,000,000 per person, each receiving an individual visa and full privileges. The next longest terms are Diamond, at 15 years for THB 2,500,000, and Platinum, at 10 years for THB 1,500,000.

At the Immigration Office at Chaeng Wattana in Bangkok, on arrival at Suvarnabhumi, Phuket or Chiang Mai airport, or, for members resident overseas, as an e-Visa issued through a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General. Appointments are arranged through the Member Contact Center on not less than five to seven business days’ notice and are subject to the availability of an Elite Personal Liaison. Chaeng Wattana operates Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 14:00 only, and requires the registered passport, the latest entry and extension stamps, the TM30 receipt and any 90-day report receipt. Airport affixation applies to direct international flights only. An appointment may be booked only once membership has been approved, the fee paid and the Welcome Letter bearing the Membership ID issued.

Three circumstances are an absolute bar. First, an overstay recorded during the current stay in Thailand, which must be cleared by departure from the country. Second, a Non-Immigrant O (Volunteer) visa held at present or at any time in the past. Third, a Non-Immigrant MT (Medical Treatment) visa held without the hospital patient report or medical certificate, or a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) visa held without the official document of the Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) and its supporting documentation. Where any of these applies, Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd. reserves the right to withhold the membership fee without refund, so the position should be verified before any payment is made.

Naturalised applicants are required to complete affixation within 30 days of issue of the Membership ID. Failure to do so necessitates an additional background examination, adding a further four to six weeks. No formal deadline applies to general applicants, who are nonetheless advised to complete affixation before entering into non-refundable travel arrangements, as the visa may not be used until the sticker has been placed in the passport.

Members resident overseas request supporting documentation from the Member Contact Center once the Welcome Letter and Membership ID have been issued, and are then issued an e-Visa through the official Thai government portal, with the appointment arranged directly with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General. Indicative processing time is 15 to 30 business days from submission. Holders of Chinese, Bangladeshi, Nepalese or Sri Lankan passports seeking affixation outside their home country are required to hold permanent residence or a long-term visa, together with a visa carrying a work permit valid for more than one year, in accordance with the policies of the Department of Consular Affairs and the relevant missions. All decisions on entry permission rest with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and immigration officers.

US citizens are eligible. The visa permits continuous long-term residence for the duration of the membership, up to 20 years, conferring permission to stay of one year per entry with unlimited entries. It does not constitute permanent residency or citizenship and does not confer entitlement to a work permit. In practice it functions as long-stay residency: the membership is renewable, no annual deposit is to be maintained, and no departure is required every 90 days, provided that the 90-day address report is filed and an extension of stay is obtained where the holder remains for more than one year without departure.

Eligible dependants are the spouse, parents and children of the principal applicant, each of whom receives an individual visa and full privileges: THB 1,000,000 per person on Platinum, THB 1,500,000 on Diamond and THB 2,000,000 on Reserve. Bronze and Gold are individual memberships only. A marriage or birth certificate establishing each relationship is required.
