The Royal Thai Government has officially approved measures that will allow Phuket to reopen to fully vaccinated international visitors on July 1, 2021, without the need for quarantine.

Bangkok, 29 June 2021, 22.00 Hrs. – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to provide the most up-to-date general information on Thailand's reopening, beginning with Phuket as the pilot destination on July 1, 2021.

The Royal Thai Government's officially approved directives were announced in the Royal Gazette on June 29, 2021.

Procedures for entering Thailand for Thais and non-Thais

Pre-arrival

1. Travelers are advised to avoid high-risk areas or congested areas at least 14 days before their departure date.

2. Travellers must depart from countries/territories approved by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), in accordance with Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) guidelines, as proposed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MoTS) and TAT, and must have been in the said countries for at least 21 days prior to their departure date –with the exception of Thai nationals and foreign expatriates returning from abroad. They must register their trip using the designated system or website, and they must have the following documents:

  • A certificate of Entry (COE).
  • A medical certificate containing a laboratory result from an RT-PRC method indicating that COVID-19 has not been detected no more than 72 hours before their departure date.
  • Copy of an English insurance policy covering COVID-19 healthcare and treatment expenses per applicant for the entire duration in Thailand, with coverage clearly identified as no less than US$100,000.
  • Copy of payment confirmation for at least 14 nights stay and RT-PCR tests at MoTS or TAT-approved hotels. If the length of stay is less than 14 days, travelers must present a confirmed flight ticket out of Thailand as well as payment confirmation for accommodation and RT-PCR tests at hotels that cover the length of stay.
  • A certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) or the World Health Organization (WHO) no less than 14 days prior to their departure date. Travellers under the age of 18 who are accompanied by their parents or guardians must have a medical certificate containing a laboratory result from an RT-PRC method indicating that COVID-19 was not detected no more than 72 hours before their departure.

3. Before departing, passengers must go through exit screening.

Arrival

1. Entry screening as well as Immigration and Customs procedures:

  • Passengers on direct, nonstop flights to Phuket International Airport are subject to health screening as well as Immigration and Customs procedures at the airport. The “7-Step Flow at Phuket International Airport” or “7 Steps 7 Countdown” can be viewed by clicking.

2. Download and install an alert application, and keep it turned on at all times during your stay in Thailand.

3. Using an approved airport transfer service, proceed directly to the reserved hotel.

4. Perform a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR method) at your own expense in accordance with the following requirements:

  • Taking the first test upon arrival and waiting for the results in the accommodation.
  • Performing additional RT-PCR tests in accordance with the following requirements:

1.Travelers with a stay of less than 7 days are required to take another test on Day 6 or 7, or as directed by the MoPH.

2.Travelers with stays of 10-14 days must take the second test on Day 6 or 7, and the third test on Day 12 or 13, or as directed by the MoPH.

  • If travelers test positive for COVID-19, they will be referred to specific healthcare facilities for medical treatment, the costs of which must be covered by the required insurance.

5. If a COVID-19 test results in a negative result, visitors can go anywhere in Phuket.

6. Travelers with a planned stay of less than 14 days must depart Phuket (Thailand) immediately on an international flight to another country on or before their departure date. (See also FAQs)

7. Travelers who have stayed in Phuket for 14 nights will be permitted to continue their journey to other Thai destinations. (See also FAQs)

Departure from a foreign or domestic location

  1. Travelers from Phuket to other countries are advised to adhere to the guidelines and measures announced by the country of their destination.
  2. Travelers from Phuket to other Thai destinations must show proof of a 14-night stay accommodation, as well as other required documentation, according to the guidelines and measures announced by the respective destinations.
